Penn Ends Brown's 8-Game Streak
from press release
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Quakers' senior Alex Weber
scored three goals, including what proved to be the game-winner
with 4:10 remaining, to lift Penn to a 7-6 Ivy League win over #11
Brown, snapping the Bears' eight-game winning streak at cold, windy
and rain-swept Stevenson Field. The Bears fall to 9-2 overall and
2-1 in Ivy play, while Penn goes to 3-7 overall and 2-4 in the Ivy
League.
Brown rallied from a 5-3 third quarter deficit to tie the game,
5-5, with fourth quarter goals by senior Kyle Hollingsworth,
followed by senior Brady Williams, scoring with 8:52 left in the
game.
Penn attackman Drew Collins gave the Quakers the lead for good,
6-5, taking a pass from Garvey Heiderman with 6:08 remaining.
Collins scored his third goal of the game with 4:10 remaining to
play to lift the Quakers to a 7-5 advantage.
Brown's Reade Seligmann scored a man-up goal with 1:55 remaining to
cut the Quakers lead to 7-6, but that was as close as the Bears
would get.
The Quakers defense was able to shut down Bears' attackman Thomas
Muldoon, who went without a point for the first time in 29 games,
dating back to 2007.
Bears' All-American Goalie Jordan Burke was outstanding in the
muddy conditions, making 15 saves. Freshman Joe Hegener came up big
for the Quakers with 11 saves.
Hollingsworth netted two goals and handed out two assists to lead
the Bears, while Williams scored two goals and sophomore Andrew
Feinberg and Seligmann added one goal each.
The Bears travel to Boston, Massachusetts on Wednesday, April 15 to
battle Harvard in a key Ivy League match-up. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
at Harvard Stadium.
