Corp Helps Colgate Clinch PL Tournament Berth

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Senior
attacker Brandon Corp (Chittenango, N.Y.) posted a
four-point outing including the eventual game winning goal to lead
the 15th-ranked Colgate University men’s lacrosse team to
10-8 victory over Lehigh, Saturday afternoon at Ulrich Field. The
Raiders win secured a berth into the Patriot League Tournament for
the fourth consecutive season.
Corp, the nations leading scorer, extended his scoring streak to 43-games by adding three assists to the game winning goal for his third straight four-point outing. Freshman Chris Zielinski (Lancaster, Pa.) also posted four points, back in his home state, off two goals and two assists, while senior Kevin Colleluori (Bethpage, N.Y.) led the way with three goals.

Zielinski put Colgate on the
board first midway though the opening period. The Raiders held the
1-0 lead for nearly six minutes before Ricky Cornetta tied the game
with 33 seconds remaining. Zielinski recorded his second goal of
the game 43 seconds into the second to give Colgate 2-1 lead, a
lead the Raiders would not relinquish for the rest of the
game.
Colgate (7-3, 4-0) added three
more goals in the second period including senior defender
Andrew Watkins (Timonium, Md.) first career-goal
to take a 5-2 lead into halftime.
The Mountain Hawks (3-9, 1-2)
trimmed Colgate’s lead to 5-3 early in the third quarter off
a goal from Max Dehlem, but the Raiders were able to respond with
three unanswered goals to build their largest lead of the game 8-3.
Colleluori began the run with his third goal of the contest and
team leading 26th of the season and was followed by goals from
Junior Zack Craumer (Greenwich, Conn.) and senior
Nick Monastero (Bohemia, N.Y.).
After closing the third quarter
with a pair of goals the Mountain Hawks were able to cut the
Colgate lead to 8-7 with two more early in the fourth quarter. The
Raiders were able to extend their lead back to three off a pair of
goals from Corp and freshman Patrick Campbell (Massapequa,
N.Y.). For Campbell this was his first collegiate goal.
Lehigh would end the scoring with 1:10 remaining to give Colgate
its sixth straight win.
Junior Tim Harrington
(Lutherville, Md.) tallied 11 stops in goal for Colgate,
including eight in the second half, while Morgan Haller posted six
saves for the Mountain Hawks.
Colgate hosts non-conference
rival Binghamton on Tuesday, April 7. The game is slated to begin
at 7 p.m. at Andy Kerr Stadium.
