Marist Routs Wagner, Perfect in MAAC

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - The Marist men's lacrosse team outscored the Wagner Seahawks 8-2 in the second half on its way to a convincing 12-4 win at Wagner College Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Freshman Evan Guarini (Long Valley, N.J.) led the Red Foxes with a hat trick as eight different Marist players scored a goal in the win. Sophomore attack Corey Zindel (Randolph, N.J.) added three assists.

Marist (3-3, 3-0 MAAC) got on the board one minute into the game as Paul Santavicca (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) fed Guarini in front of the Wagner goal to make the score 1-0. The Red Foxes then scored a man-up goal with 13:16 to go in the first quarter as Matt Francis (Lansdale, Pa.) put in a Zindel pass from right in front of the cage to go ahead 2-0. Santavicca got his second assist of the game at the 9:10 mark of the first as he fed Ryan Sharkey (West Field, N.J.) for a goal 15 yards from the cage.

After getting shutout in the first quarter, Wagner (1-8, 0-2 MAAC) got on the board at the 14:06 mark of the second quarter John Hird found the back of the net for the Seahawks. The Seahawks then got to within a goal at the 9:35 mark as Will Macumber scored to make the score 3-2. Santavicca put Marist back ahead by two with a goal off a dodge from the left of the cage with 36 seconds remaining in the half, making the score 4-2 which stuck through the half. The Red Foxes outshot Wagner 12-7 in the second quarter and 19-14 for the half.

Marist got back up by three at the 12:45 mark of the third quarter when Guarini assisted on Sharkey's second goal, making the score 5-2. The Red Foxes extended the lead to four with 5:41 remaining in the quarter whenMatt Teichmann (Huntington, N.Y.) scored on a dodge from behind the net to make the score 6-2. Lou Loria(Bethpage, N.Y.) then found the back of the net off a Marist clear to make the score 7-2 with 2:15 left in the third. Guarini then scored with two seconds remaining in the quarter on a jump shot from the left of the crease to put Marist ahead 8-2.
