Dalgarno, Buckeyes Down Robert Morris

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Seniors Jeff Ryan and Joel
Dalgarno had eight and seven points, respectively, as the duo led
the Ohio State men's lacrosse team to a 19-13 victory over Robert
Morris Friday night in front of 993 fans in Jesse Owens Memorial
Stadium. Ryan, Dalgarno and sophomore Mike Pires each had four
goals in the contest, with Ryan adding a team-best four assists for
a career-high eight points. Ohio State now is 4-2, while Robert
Morris ends its winning streak at six and drops to 6-2 on the
year.
The teams combined for nine goals in the first quarter, with Ohio
State holding a 5-4 edge at the end of 1. Robert Morris scored the
first three goals of the game. Keith Lee opened the scoring just 45
seconds in, followed by a Kyle Buchanan goal at 12:27 and Taylor
Caparosa's tally at 9:32. The Buckeyes responded with a three-goal
run in 1:38 to tie the game. Junior James Green set up Pires at
9:00 before Ryan scored unassisted at 7:56. Freshman Brock Sorensen
added a goal just 34 seconds later, assisted by Bryce Woodson.
Robert Morris regained the lead quickly on Trevor Moore's goal at
6:40, before the Buckeyes scored four-consecutive, including two to
close out the first. At 5:22 Buckeye senior defenseman Scott
Matthews scored his second career goal. On a clearing attempt,
Buckeye junior goalie Brandon Freeman passed to Matthews and he
flung the ball from the corner of the Buckeyes' defensive box and
it sailed two-thirds of the field into the back of the net while
the RMU goalie was out of the net playing defense. Ryan found Pires
for a man-up goal at 3:49 to put Ohio State ahead (5-4).
Ohio State outscored Robert Morris, 4-1, in the second. Pires
scored a second-consecutive EMO goal at the 12:28 mark of the
second, assisted by Dalgarno and then Ryan found Dalgarno for the
Buckeyes' third man-up goal in a row, scored at 11:57. The
Colonials' Kiel Matisz scored at 7:28 to end the Buckeye run. Ryan
and Dalgarno combined for another score at 5:31, with Dalgarno
finding the back of the net. Freshman Eddie Bambino scored
unassisted with six seconds remaining in the half to send the
Buckeyes into the locker room ahead, 9-5.
The Buckeyes pulled further ahead in the third, outscoring Robert
Morris 5-2 to lead 14-7 heading into the fourth quarter. Ryan
scored at 13:43, assisted by Dalgarno, and Green set up Ryan for an
EMO goal 56 seconds later (12:47). Robert Morris' Patrick Smith
converted a man-up chance at 10:55. Dalgarno (7:37) and Dan Kerch
(3:46) traded unassisted goals. Green scored at 2:18 and Pires
tallied with seven seconds left in the quarter.
Robert Morris scored the first three goals of the fourth quarter,
scoring over a 2:03 span. Moore tallied EMO at 12:49, Matisz added
a goal at 11:56 and Kerch followed with a score at 10:46. Ohio
State had two goals in 1:33, with Ryan scoring his fourth of the
game at 10:00 and Woodson setting up junior Mario Ventiquattro at
8:27. Each team had three goals to close out the game.
Robert Morris scored back-to-back at 6:40 (EMO by Matisz) and 4:36
(Smith). The Buckeyes then scored three in a row, as Ryan found
classmate Doug Ruhnke at 3:13, Dalgarno found Ventiquattro at 2:31
and junior Andrew Stimmel set up Dalgarno for his fourth of the
game at 1:47. Smith ended the game with an unassisted tally with
1:00 remaining.
Ohio State outshot Robert Morris, 35-34, in the game. Freeman had
seven saves in all 60 minutes in the Buckeye cage. RMU's Sal Barcia
had 11 saves and allowed 18 goals in 59:50. Dillion Pope played 10
seconds while Barcia was serving a penalty and allowed one EMO
goal.
The Buckeyes won 17-of-31 faceoffs in the game. Senior Nick Carr
led the way, going 17-9 on the day. Carr matched his career best
with a team-high nine saves.
Ohio State was 4-for-4 on man-up chances, with Robert Morris
3-for-6.
