Binghamton Handles Marist
from press release
VESTAL, N.Y.-- Junior attack Andy Cook finished
with two goals and four assists while sophomore attack Brian
Donahue and junior midfielder Steve Carlson both recorded hat
tricks, powering Binghamton (1-4) to a 12-7 win over Marist (0-2)
in a non-conference men's lacrosse game on Saturday afternoon at
the Bearcats Sports Complex.
The 12 goals is the most scored by the Bearcats since their 16-4
win over Hartford on March 31, 2007. For Cook, the six points
represents his career high. Carlson turned in his second career hat
trick while Donahue, who also added an assist, notched his
first.
Tied at 5-5 early in the third quarter, Binghamton broke open the
game with three unanswered goals during the remainder of the
period. Senior attack Jake Boyce had a goal and an assist during
that span while Cook and Carlson each scored once.
Marist was called for a pair of penalties early in the fourth
quarter, including a three minute major for an illegal stick. The
Bearcats took advantage of the situation as Donahue and Carlson
each scored a man-up goal. Cook then made the score 11-5 with an
unassisted goal with 8:55 remaining in regulation.
Junior attack Ryan Sharkey, who also recorded a hat trick, cut the
deficit to 11-7 with 7:28 left to go. Cook, however, assisted on a
goal by senior attack Chris Mulheron with 4:29 left to put the game
out of reach.
Binghamton outshot Marist 45-24 for the game. In the second half,
however, the Bearcats held a decisive 29-7 advantage.
Senior goalie Ryan Penner made 17 saves for the Red Foxes while
senior goalie Larry Kline stopped seven shots for the Bearcats.
Binghamton also won 11 of the 20 faces offs and had a 30-20 edge in
ground balls.
