Cassell, Silberlicht Spark Hobart Win
from press release
VESTAL, N.Y.-- Junior midfielder Tyler Cassell recorded his
first career hat trick and junior goalie Max Silberlicht made a
season-high 14 saves, leading Hobart (2-0) to an 8-4 win over
Binghamton (0-2) in a non-conference men's lacrosse game on Tuesday
afternoon at the Bearcats Sports Complex. The loss was the second
straight home setback for the Bearcats.
"Hobart is a great team," head coach Ed Stephenson said. "They got
out to a great start and their goalie played outstanding. I thought
our defense settled down in the second half but offensively, we
missed a lot of opportunities."
Cassell got two of his goals in the first half as the Statesmen
took a 5-0 lead at the break. After a scoreless eight minutes of
the third quarter, freshman attack Chris Pederson stretched the
lead to 6-0. It was his second goal of the game.
Binghamton got to within 6-2 with 13:42 left in the fourth quarter
on a pair of goals by senior midfielder Duncan
Streeten. Hobart, however, responded on goals by Cassell
and sophomore midfielder Nick Blumer to go up 8-2 with 4:36 left to
go.
Junior attack Andy Cook scored a pair
of goals in the final three minutes for Binghamton but by then, the
issue had been decided.
Binghamton outshot Hobart 27-26 but Silberlicht made six of his 14
saves in the final quarter to keep the Statesmen in control. Senior
goalie Larry Kline made eight saves for
the Bearcats.
Binghamton heads to Drexel on Saturday for a 1 p.m. contest.
NOTES: Cook now has three goals and an
assist in the first two games of the year ... Streeten tied his
career high with two goals, which he also scored against Vermont on
April 8, 2007.
