LM with Sheehan: Week 3 Podcast Highlights

Taylor Thornton, Northwestern

Taylor Thornton won't sneak up on any more opponents after her surprise, game-winning goal in Northwestern's overtime triumph of North Carolina. But she did catch me off guard with her refreshing candor.

Thornton was our featured guest on this week's Lacrosse Magazine Podcast featuring Sheehan Stanwick Burch. Some highlights of the interview:

* Thornton talked about her first impression of Northwestern, watching the 2006 NCAA championship game with her father. He mentioned to her the possibility of playing for the Wildcats. "I remember looking at him like, please, like I'm going to be able to play there. Keep dreamin.'"

* On Northwestern rebuilding following the end of its dynasty in 2010: "It's a new beginning. It's a new kind of aura. It's fun for us to be around each other. We're competitive with each other."

* On Northwestern's reputation for rough play: "We're kind of blue collar. When we see a ground ball, we're going to go after it. If we foul you, so be it."

* On her game-winning goal against UNC: "I saw they had two on Shannon [Smith]. I was ready to have the ball in my hands and I was confident with it... I went hard to the goal, did a little spin move and made my shot."
