Cassese Thanks Villanova for Wakeup Call

Several surprises surfaced Tuesday in an uncharacteristically busy weekday for NCAA Division I men's lacrosse. Princeton benched star goalie Tyler Fiorito for an undisclosed conduct violation -- he'll be back in the cage against Johns Hopkins on Friday -- and fast-rising Fairfield found more overtime magic at its fingertips to be beat Hofstra on the road.

But perhaps the biggest surprise was the manner in which unranked Lehigh manhandled No. 19 Penn -- with a stifling defense that suddenly looks really, really good.

After getting drubbed by No. 8 Villanova on Feb. 18, the Mountain Hawks blanked Manhattan 13-0 on Saturday and extended that shutout streak to 90-plus minutes against the Quakers in a 10-4 win Tuesday. In a video interview afterward, Lehigh head coach Kevin Cassese thanked Villanova for the wakeup call.
